Salary range – $22.50 – $25.50/hour

Full Time, Days (40 hours/week)

The Opportunity:

Velma’s House is an Indigenous led, low-barrier safe space for women and gender diverse folks who are unsheltered, experiencing sexual exploitation or gender based violence. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Administrative Coordinator is responsible for day-to-day administration tasks such as collecting and distributing information, facilitating meetings, taking minutes and providing ongoing leadership support.  Our safe space serves a place of comfort, connection, and safety, with an emphasis on meeting the immediate safety needs of those who need it most, when they need it most.

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Providing as-needed reception support; greeting and hosting guests, answering phone calls and emails, and directing communication to the appropriate person;   
  • Receiving, sorting, and informing staff of mail, messages, and deliveries;
  • Preparing spaces for meetings, building tours and site visits;
  • Managing, ordering, and distributing inventory; office supplies, harm reduction tools and housekeeping products;
  • Attending the Workplace Health and Safety Committee;
  • Updating internal staff communications board(s);
  • Managing, monitoring, and tracking donations;
  • Data entry of high volume statistics;
  • Creating monthly calendar of events for staff and guests;
  • Assisting frontline staff in the drop in space by providing referral and resource information;
  • Assisting in entry-level finance tasks, such as cheque requisitions, expenses, and purchase orders;
  • Maintain strict confidence in all organizational policies and procedures

Who You Are:

  • Demonstrated understanding of issues related to mental health, gender based violence, problematic substance use; sexual exploitation;
  • Knowledgeable on resources and systems within Winnipeg;

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Walking alongside relatives that are accessing Velma’s House with respect, care, and anticipation that each participant’s needs will be diverse and unique;
  • Ensuring safe food handling, preparation and storage of items;
  • Sorting and preparing ingredients, assist in meal planning;
  • Cooking an assortment of healthy meals for large groups;  
  • Assembling and tracking food hampers;
  • Sanitizing and cleaning kitchen prep area, dishes, and appliances;

Finance Program Specialist

Full Time: 40 hours per week

Salary Range: $53,500-$58,500

About The Role

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Finance Program Specialist will be responsible for maintaining the books and records of a large number of programs including all processing, budgeting, accounting, reconciliations, and reporting. The successful candidate will also be responsible for communicating cash flow changes and necessary updates to the General Ledger.  The Finance Program Specialist will also provide assistance to the Finance Director with preparation of the year-end audit and drafting of the financial statements.

The ideal candidate is a highly-motivated individual who meets the following essential requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Degree and/or Certificate in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 2+ years of relevant accounting experience
  • Knowledge of accounting standards for non-profit organizations is an asset

The Opportunity:

The Manager of Youth and Education Programs is a key member of the Operational Team and will report to the Director of Programs and Services. You will provide leadership in areas of planning, budgeting, implementation, delivery and evaluation of Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Youth and Education initiatives. As a seasoned, dynamic, creative and self-motivated professional, you thrive on providing people and community-centered services and managing quality programs. You will foster and maintain multiple stakeholder relationships, serve as direct management for youth and education programming, and work in collaboration with the Operational team to provide leadership, coaching and resources.

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Program Administration: Responsible for all facets of program management and implementation, including planning, budgeting, evaluation and reporting;
  • Management of Program Staff: Provide appropriate training for program staff on program goals, objectives, activities and procedures;
  • Operational Team Participation: Responsible for active participation and leadership in organization management functions and decision-making processes;
  • Leadership: Prepare presentations, briefing notes, and progress reports for Director of Programs and Services, Council, Advisory Committee and funding bodies as required; Prepare monthly, mid-term reports and annual reports or as required;
  • Program Planning and Service Coordination: Develop and implement operational directives and work plans; Identify and create programming opportunities pertaining to Indigenous community-centered care;

Kistesimaw – Mentor

1 FTE role (40 hours/week) & 1 PT role (20 hours/week)

Salary range: $19.00 – $22.00/hour

The Opportunity:

The Mentor for the Kistesimaw “Eldest Brother” program to provide direct support for young boys under the age of 12.  The selected candidate will provide positive mentorship to boys and help prevent future police contact through advocacy support, structured recreation, cultural based activities, and school based support activities accessed through utilizing community resources, and providing support for the child and family as needed.

What You Will Be Doing….

  • Responsible for developing and providing feedback on program delivery tools;
  • Implementing, evaluating, and monitoring of the program;
  • Day-to-day management of the program and participants;
  • Facilitating, planning, and delivering youth activities:
  • Provide creative and sincere mentorship and support;
  • Recruitment of participants;
  • Ensure that traditional knowledge is incorporated in the design, development and delivery of the programs;
  • Safe transportation of participants;

Who You Are:

  • Demonstrated understanding of the male role influence when working with boys;
  • An active and engaged mentor to ensure participants attend recreational and leisure activities, appointments, referrals, educational, cultural and other resources;
  • Detailed case notes documenter and able to produce report documentation;
  • Able to program plan, prep and facilitate;
  • Maintain regular contact with participants and families, and collaterals;
  • Demonstrate and incorporate cultural knowledge competence;
  • Strong understanding of child development processes;

You Have:

  • Relevant post-secondary education, or combination of education and experience;
  • One – two (1-2) years’ experience working with Indigenous boys, ages 12 and under;
  • A valid Manitoba Driver’s License, clear drivers abstract and reliable access to a vehicle;
  • Experience in facilitating group activities;
  • Experience with case management models;
  • Physically able to engage in physical activities with children;
  • Understanding of wraparound and community-centered approach as well as trauma-informed practices;
  • Strong morals and ethics, along with a commitment to staff and participant confidentiality;
  • Commitment to cultural reclamation practice and traditional healing practices;
  • Are prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours including weekends, evenings;
  • A recent (as of the past 6 months) Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector, and Child Abuse Registry Check;

Manager of Gender-Based Violence Prevention Programs

Full Time (40 hours/week)

Annual salary range: $65,000 – $70,000

The Opportunity:

The Manager of Gender-Based Violence Prevention Programs is a key member of the Operational Team and will report to the Director of Programs and Services. You will provide leadership in areas of planning, budgeting, implementation, delivery and evaluation of Ka Ni Kanichihk’s Gender-Based Violence Prevention initiatives. As a seasoned, dynamic, creative and self-motivated professional, you thrive on providing people and community-centered services and managing quality programs. You will foster and maintain multiple stakeholder relationships, serve as direct management for GBV programming, and work in collaboration with the Operational team to provide leadership, coaching and resources.

What You Will Be Doing…

  • Program Administration: Responsible for all facets of program management and implementation, including planning, budgeting, evaluation and reporting;
  • Management of Program Staff: Provide appropriate training for program staff on program goals, objectives, activities and procedures;
  • Operational Team Participation: Responsible for active participation and leadership in organization management functions and decision-making processes;
  • Leadership: Prepare presentations, briefing notes, and progress reports for Director of Programs and Services, Council, Advisory Committee and funding bodies as required; Prepare monthly, mid-term reports and annual reports or as required;
  • Program Planning and Service Coordination: Develop and implement operational directives and work plans; Identify and create programming opportunities pertaining to Indigenous community-centered care and to build the GBV prevention network;
  • Program Reporting and Licensing: Responsible for ensuring all licensing standards are met and compliance regulations are identified and maintained;
  • Human Resource Management: Participates in the recruitment, selection, maintenance and professional development of a competent staff team with clear delegation of responsibility and accountability;
  • Financial Management: Responsible for the development, management, and implementation of multiple program-based budgets from an approved financial plan; Develop a program-based budget which accurately reflects service priorities, program deliverables, and staffing requirements;
  • Community Liaison: Work collaboratively with government officials and related community service organizations to achieve organizational and program goals to build strong relations; Establish effective and robust working relationships with community partners directly involved in program delivery;

You Have:

  • Post-Secondary education in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • 2-3 years of direct management or supervisory experience;
  • Experience in Gender Based Violence Prevention and Intervention Programs;
  • Ability to manage programs inclusive of planning, administration, staffing, and reporting;
  • Cultural proficiency;
  • Leadership and Management skills, including Crisis Management and Trauma Informed Care;
  • Case management experience;
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret detailed reports, budgets, funding agreements and prepare and/or review draft communications;
  • Superior computer skills with MS Office software, particularly Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel, Outlook and very conversant with social media platforms;
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including sound judgment and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality;

Request For Proposal: Indigenous Sexual and Reproductive Consultant

The Mino Pimatisiwin Sexual Wellness Lodge is seeking proposals from qualified Indigenous Sexual and Reproductive Justice consultants with extensive experience working alongside Indigenous birth givers. Applicants will provide coordination and early implementation of a project model to address Syphilis/Congenital Syphilis rates in Indigenous communities. We invite qualified and experienced professionals to submit their proposals in response to this RFP.

Restoring the Sacred – Youth Activities Worker

Full Time (40 hours/week)

Salary Range: $21.00 – 24.00/hour $43,680 – $49,920/annually

About the Role
Restoring the Sacred (RTS) is a culturally-based after-school program that focuses on providing peer support for youth that have moved to Winnipeg to complete their schooling. The RTS team provides a variety of opportunities for the youth, such as meeting new friends, career exploration, learning and participating in culturally-based activities, and navigating the many resources that Winnipeg has to offer! RTS operates within a peer mentorship model to provide a positive, inclusive, and safe environment that builds a strong circle of support for the youth to ensure prevention of sexual and/or gang exploitation.

What We Need:
The selected candidate is responsible for curriculum facilitation such as instructing, planning, and organizing the program under the direction of the Coordinator. Learning modules include: Life Skills and Ways of Being, Circle of Courage Model and Reclaiming Our Sacredness Curriculum. The Facilitator is also responsible for monthly activity development, planning, and organizing of the mentoring component of the program. They will provide clear communication in areas of assistance such as goal setting and building life skills, and are able to motivate and inspire youth. The Facilitator will act as a resource and strive to help the participants achieve their educational goals and assist in their transition to Winnipeg and must be committed to cultural reclamation and traditional healing practices.

What You Bring:

  • Experience working in the Indigenous community or equivalent combination of education and relevant experiences (post-secondary education an asset);
  • 1-2 years experience working with youth and facilitating activities with groups;
  • Knowledgeable on community resources and agencies;
  • Successfully developed and delivered content within a group setting;
  • Experience in recruitment, assessment and selection of participants
  • Proficient organizational and time management skills;
  • Dedicated team player who demonstrates flexibility and adaptability;
  • Detail-orientated record keeping; including report writing, case notes and data collection;
  • Clear communicator and presenter; both written and oral;
  • Understanding of culturally-based trauma-informed practices alongside a commitment to staff and participant privacy;
  • Current First Aid/CPR certificate, Food Handler’s is considered an asset;
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training and Applied Suicide Intervention Skill Training considered an asset;
  • Must be prepared to work 40 hours a week with flexible hours including some weekends, and evenings (Mondays, Wednesday, and Fridays program hours are 11:30am – 7:30 pm, while Tuesdays and Thursdays office hours are from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
