The Opportunity:
Velma’s House is an Indigenous led, low-barrier safe space for women and gender diverse folks who are unsheltered, experiencing sexual exploitation or gender based violence. Under the guidance of the Director of Programs and Services, Velma’s House Manager is a key member of the Senior Leadership Team and is responsible for the efficient day-to-day operations of Velma’s House, ensuring that all administrative duties are handled with care, compassion, and a trauma-informed approach. The role emphasizes organizational management, supervision, administrative coordination, and relationship-building with funders and external stakeholders, with a focus on safety, inclusivity, and culturally responsive practices.
What You Will Be Doing…
- Walking alongside relatives that are accessing Velma’s House with respect, care, and understanding that each member’s needs will be diverse and unique
- Fostering clear, kind, inclusive and professional relationships with all members
- Funding and grant/proposal management, tracking, and reporting
- Overseeing, monitoring and manage multiple funding streams and operational budget
- Financial forecasting, budget preparation, and expense tracking
- Supervise and support a small team of direct reports, such as Admin, Floor Supervisors and Coordinators
- Cash flow management to ensure operational needs are met
- Preparing monthly and/or quarterly reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Overseeing and implementing Policy and Procedure development
- Lead team meetings with Velma’s Leadership team, attend monthly staff meetings
- Prepare presentations for Senior Leadership, Council, Advisory Committee and funding partners as required
- Quality assurance within all levels of program development and implementation
- Scheduling and facilitating peer advisory and community advisory committees
- Responsible for overseeing office and facility management
- Planning and implementing relevant workshops and programming;
- Demonstrating knowledge on confidentiality and Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, as well as harm reduction and trauma-informed practices
Who You Are:
- Experienced in Program Administration, within the non-profit sector is an asset
- Intermediate Financial proficiency with ability to analyze costs, create reports and forecast results
- Strategic planner with ability to approach challenges with creative solutions
- Demonstrated leader with the ability to provide coaching, training opportunities and deliver constructive feedback
- Ability to analyze and interpret detailed reports, budgets, funding agreements and prepare and/or review draft communications
- Experience in managing relationships with funders and external stakeholders, including government agencies, donors, and community partners
- Strong organizational, time management, and written and verbal communication skills
You Have…
- Post-Secondary training in Business Administration, Social Work, or a related field; equivalent combined experience in lieu of degree may be considered
- 3-5 years of management experience in a non-profit, community services, or health-focused setting
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultural protocols and traditions
- Strong commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion; including issues impacting the 2SLGBTQ+ community;
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams);
- Current Emergency First Aid Certificate and CPR
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate
- Driver’s License, Driver’s Abstract, 2-Million Liability Insurance required
- Clear Criminal Record Check, Child and Adult Abuse Registry Check
